Introducing Elmo!  Apart from having a super cool name there is much to love about this character.

Elmo has come into rescue due to his owner moving overseas for work commitments, so we are on the hunt for the perfect forever home for this little dachshund.  (Elmo is a large dachshund x border collie, however we have been advised that he certainly didn’t inherit the working genes that many BC have!)

Positive Attributes:

• Elmo really is a peoples dog…he loves being around his humans and is good with the neighbours children.  However in his excitement he can be a little boisterous so a home without young children is best suited.
• Elmo is toilet trained and takes himself outside when he needs to go.
• Elmo’s list of quirks is endless.   Although his favourite place to visit is the beach,  dont even think he will voluntarily go for a swim!  Elmo loves to have a chat with his human, and can huff, puff and grizzle in his efforts to communicate what he wants.

Elmo’s  new owner will need to be mindful that he isnt a fan of bikes, scooter, skateboards  etc that come too close or sneak up from behind.   He is also reactive to other dogs and likes to have some distance when walking past.  His current owner has engaged a trainer to help with this and he has shown progress with increased exposure and rewards based training.  Elmo likes to be the top dog and would be best placed in a home with no other dogs.  Elmo isnt too keen on being left alone by his humans,  but he can manage a couple of hours if he has his toys to help keep him occupied.  (Oh, and Elmo can dismember a soft squeaky toy in record time, so this boy will need some tough toys to keep him busy)  Although Elmo is a bit of a couch potato, he will require a walk most days.
