Introducing Pepe!

Pepe is a gorgeous long-haired dachshund who, at first glance, looks as though butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth, and 90% of the time, that is exactly the dog you will meet.

He is affectionate, playful and full of personality. Pepe loves his walks, enjoys the occasional little run, rolling in the grass, chasing leaves and playing with his soft toys. He walks beautifully on lead, meets other dogs nicely, is house trained and recently learnt to settle and sleep in his crate at night. Tummy rubs and attention are also very high on his list of favourite things!

Here’s the but…

Pepe is smart, he has learnt in the past that growling, showing his teeth and, on occasion, nipping can sometimes get him what he wants, be it the warm spot on the couch or not going out in the rain. The good news is that Pepe is responding very well to consistent boundaries and training and is beginning to understand that these tactics simply don’t work anymore. He is also making excellent progress with reactivity (Barking) towards unfamiliar men entering the home.

We are looking for experienced, confident adopters who are genuinely committed to the task and prepared to continue the great work already underway. Pepe needs people who will remain calm, consistent and probably a little more stubborn than he is! Someone who has perhaps successfully worked through similar behavioural challenges before. A household including at least one adult male would be beneficial as this has proven to be a positive in his current foster home.

Pepe would enjoy the companionship of one or two friendly dogs and will thrive in a home where expectations and boundaries remain firm and clear.

There is so much to love about this beautiful boy. Pepe doesn’t need someone to overlook his behaviours or accept it, he needs someone prepared to love enough to keep training and keep Pepe on the straight and narrow. With the right experienced home, consistency and commitment, we believe Pepe has every opportunity to become the very best version of himself.
