Dodger : 1year 1mth B&T Smooth 8kilo Dachshund

Dodgers current home has two well aged mini Poodles. The owners are mature and unfortunately one of them has some challenges looking after all three.

He is a gorgeous little boy with all the typical Dachshund traits and needs a home that understands the breed. Yes, he barks at everything that moves, yes he is food orientated, yes he doesn’t like being on his own, yes he is reactive to dogs when walking.  But ALL of those things can be trained, or at the very least curbed.

He needs a person or persons that is willing to put in the hard yards and with persistence and consistency of a routine can see him being the best little boy.  He is certainly young enough to embrace a new best boy behaviours.  Dodger will need time to settle in so your patience will also be appreciated.

He has little exposure to children, cats or other small animals. He is wary of children as he is with other strangers, he is not aggressive but just shies away. Until he is familiar..
He is a friendly and affectionate animal and he is used to and enjoys close contact with humans. He comes from an open house with two Poodles, he actually thinks he is a poodle ! He has a large yard and lawn to run around in and scratch around in. He likes sun-baking, digging holes, chasing birds and barking at the dogs next door.
He has had good exposure to a variety of activities like walks, car rides, camping and boating and is not really phased by any of these. He even has his own little doggie life-jacket. He is basically a well-adjusted little dog with a gorgeous and lovely manner.
He is alert and obedient and is accustomed to a variety of useful commands for general use. He has excellent focus when engaged. He isn’t crate trained but will go to his bed when told. He is starting to develop good heeling on the lead, especially without the distraction of the other dogs. He will do most things for treats and loves a good cuddle.
He likes his outdoors, he is the first to venture out in the morning through the doggie door and probably spends more time outside that the other dogs. However, he is a lap dog and he needs human contact, love and affection. He will lay on your lap all night and loves burrowing under the bed covers at night. He is well house trained and will go outside during the night to relieve himself if need be but normally will sleep the whole night.
He is ideally a one person/couple dog and will bond well, given a bit of time, with other existing dogs. Another companion dog would be ideal to give him some company whilst his owners are out of the house. He is not really used to being left alone, he could accustom himself to a  family with sensible children.
