this is indeed a happy tale/tail. Cindy Lou came in for rehoming in quite a bit of a rush. Thankfully our network within the re home coordinators gave me a good foster home for Cindy to have a soft landing, little did we both know it was a perfect match and Cindy has now joined the family permanently. From the very beginning Cindy had eyes for the human lady of the house. She is thriving. Sometimes Fosters are foster fails. Regardless we are grateful that we have some beautiful people to call on in an emergency.

This delightful dachshund has truly blossomed thanks to the unwavering kindness and patience of his adoptive family. Once needing a little extra care, Milo has transformed into a joyful companion who's embraced his new life with vigour and happiness.
Milo's journey to health wasn't without challenges—he required a few vet visits to recover fully, including a check-up to clear an anal gland infection. With a clean bill of health, Milo was able to integrate seamlessly into the life at his new countryside home. It's here that Milo's sweet and gentle nature has truly shined, much to the delight of his family, who are amazed at how well he has settled into their lives.
Sharing his abode with George the kelpie, Milo has found a happy dance of companionship and friendship. His world is filled with love, exploration, and adventure. Recently, he even embarked on a camping trip during the school holidays, soaking in all the joys of the outdoors with his new family.
With children to play with and the companionship of another pup, Milo finds every day to be a new adventure and joy. His story is a testament to the wonderful impact a loving, patient family can have on a dog's life, and he radiates this love back to his people.

We have had dachshund dogs for 50 years and after losing Goosey, our previous dachshund our house was very quiet and missing something. We applied to DRA after seeing the advert for Milo and Coco who were looking for their forever home. These two precious characters have settled into our farm life and love the space and comfort of our property. The chooks have been put in their place and the frogs have learnt to get out of the way! They know the routine and have adapted very quickly. Thank you to DRA for allowing us to adopt such special little dogs and also thank you for their little parcel which arrived a few days ago. A special thank you to Andrea from DRA for her support through the whole process.
Dex (1) Melbourne
Fostering, there is a term called "failed foster" and it appears our family will qualify. Asked to urgently help by Dachshund Rescue Australia to a mini smooth, Dex has slotted in so well, appears we will be adopting this boy at some stage soon. He has had four homes in less than 15 months, most would say red flags, not till you know his journey. Against my instincts, Dex is a back yard breed pup, sold to a person looking to breed herself. This person decided it would take to long to have Dex breed. So Dex was sold again to a gentleman that loved this pup, did everything right, but he had to surrender as he was diagnosed with a terminal illness and not a lot of time left. That's were DRA came in, instead of a pound this grand organisation asked us to help and our family is so blessed with this request. Our No1 was Eddie (our standard wire), we expected issues, challenges, problems, but all we got from Dex was a devotion and love. This fella has had tough time, he has shown nothing less than a friendly demeanour and a desire to be cuddled, be best buddies with Eddie and a lust for life. If you've read this far, thank you. We don't exactly know the future, but I'd encourage anyone to consider fostering where the circumstances lead you to believe it is right. We know Eddie's purity, Dex we don't. But this looks to be a journey ahead that our entire family will enjoy 🤗
🥳It's OFFICIAL ... Dex is now family, the adoption complete and Eddie has a younger brother. As a shortened form of the Latin moniker Dexter, Dex means “right-handed,” “skilled,” “clever,” or “favourable.” These meanings paint a picture of someone so competent, skillful, and quick that they might even be described as “dexterous,” an English term that derives from Dexter.
