We had been thinking about getting another dachshund to keep our 7-year-old company and came across a DRA Facebook post of a lovely little boy who was looking for a home. I had seen DRA’s name around on social media and recognized that a lot of people had recommended them, so we put in an application. From there the process was extremely smooth and well supported throughout. Andie made contact with us and helped to set up a meet and greet and handled all of the communication for us. DRA’s process has thought of absolutely every detail, and we found everything very supportive. They were very responsive to any questions that we had and gave us lots of tips to make sure the process went as successfully as possible. I’m very pleased to say that after the DRA trial period we were thrilled that our new family member was going to be staying with us! I would absolutely recommend DRA to anyone interested in rescuing or rehoming a dachshund. They have thought of everything and are there to help you the whole way. * DRA are thrilled for this little family. Alfie is happy.

When Hazels owner had passed away, family came to DRA to find Hazel a forever home. The planets aligned for this gorgeous girl. Otto had just lost his best mate "Lana" a senior princess. He was pining and really lost with himself. Then along came Hazel to fill his heart. Day one we cannot believe they snuggled together in the bed. Hazel is an energetic young girl with a sweet nature.The dachshunds are very lucky to have Annabel give them lots of playtime and care. It was a privilege to re-home Hazel, I'm sure her former owner would be delighted to see her so happy. DRA are very appreciative to adopters that open their hearts and homes to genuine dachshunds in need like Hazel. xx

Loki, (was Zuma), has been adopted into a beach loving family and daily walks on the beach are now a daily occurence for Loki. Although his owner says that he still isnt too fussed on getting his paws wet! They say that he loves his big brother Fritz, and they provide so much joy and entertainment. He loves playing chasey games with Fritz, who goads him with his toys. He is such a quick learner, and mastered his toilet training in a matter of weeks. Thanks to Loki's owner for choosing to adopt a gorgeous rescue dog!

Monte, (was called Ziggy), have been adopted by a couple who fell in love with his picture on his profile. Monte has settled into his new home and has a brother called Toki now. The highlight of their day is going for the daily walk where they both strut their stuff. Monte is a clever boy and has completed puppy school and he loved the socialising with the other puppies. George’s Story… Certain things take time, homing a rescue is not an overnight settle and in the case of a Dachshund like George, it took a few weeks. George was suffering from Separation Anxiety and stress brought on by the rocky road he had been traveling prior to surrender, this was exacerbated by a string of trials where he was given very minimal time to even know his way around the garden, this leading George to temporary foster care. When I picked George up, I could see in his eye he knew he was on the move again, he was quiet for the ride home and very reserved until he was introduced to my fur family of Dachshunds. As always introductions to others is a task in its self, but after an hour walk things started to simmer down between them all. George slept in his crate without a peep that evening. Day one, George didn’t leave my side and had a panic attack if I moved rooms to fast, he paced and panted all day, we had many accidents in the house and was not eating other than from my hand. This behaviour continued for day 2 and 3 with the added issue of being unsettled through the night. Day four was time to set a few boundaries, George had tried flexing his muscles for top dog position and was now eating extremely well. It was time for him to realise that I sometimes leave the house. I started closing doors on him and putting gates between us up for short periods of time, shutting him with the other dogs in the garden again for short lengths, this was developed into short trips to the shops without him. Over the following week, George had a few tantrums, we lost a dog bed, a cushion, a fly screen along the way but each day he settled quicker and quicker until we had no more tantrums or crying, this coincided with George getting to know the daily routine and much better walking behaviour. It took George about 2 weeks to learn and it took me about the same to know George. I have learnt among things that if the blanket comes off his head in the night it’s my job to replace it, that he likes to lie top to tail on the couch and prefers grass walks to the beach. George met his new adopter and forever home today, It was extremely hard saying goodbye to this big boy who I had just got to know. I can’t wait to hear his progress and how he settles with his new Dachshund friends. With Georges anxiety his new family are fully prepared to loose a cushion or two to and allow whatever time it takes for George to feel at home.

10-year-old Frankie was looking for a new home due to a change in family circumstances. He was looking for a quiet location with a laid-back family and a comfortable lap to curl up on. He very quickly settled into his new home with his new friend Bella who had lost her other mate recently. His new owners have taken him into their hearts, and he is leading the best life ever with his new companion Bella who loves him to bits."

Little Louie has been adopted by a lady who although still grieving the loss of her previous dachshund, reached out and felt that Louie might be the perfect match for her. The meet and greet went very well and Louie was off to his new home that afternoon. Louie has settled in very well and his new owner has commented how sweet and affectionate he is. She is including him in group neighbourhood walks with the other dogs, which is something that he loves doing. Thank you Louise for choosing to adopt a rescue dachshund!
