Success Stories

We had been looking for a companion for our 2 yo Dachshund x Max who has some mobility issues. I fell instantly in love with Rufus when I saw him on the DRA site, applied, crossed both fingers and waited. We were so lucky to be offered a meet and greet with Rufus’s amazing foster mum Julie. Thankfully Max approved and we drove home with our family complete. The follow up and support from DRA has been wonderful. Our two beautiful boys are now inseparable. Thank you DRA and all of your amazing volunteers. - Such a beautiful family we are thrilled.

Well, here we go.... Loki found our family soon after the recent loss of our beloved Lizzy. The remaining snags were bereft, as were we. He came to our attention via the DRA page. After his discovery, the family (dawgs included) had several discussions about him as a proposition, all agreed that a snag lad was what was needed. The transaction came about, and in little time at all, Loki was snuggling, wrestling, and running amok like a Dachshund should. Working with the volunteers from DRA has been an amazing experience, and I believe we have become friends with all involved. We were fortunate to be long term snag parents, and we accommodated his needs during the initial settling period well. Important things to consider during settling in and long-term. Snags need company and lots of it. Toilet training can take time and can be frustrating. Diet is important, feed them with the importance that you place on your humans. Dogs bark...yep, funnily enough. Give your new snag time to get his/her stress of change out. Still provide firm but fair direction for negative behaviors. Remember....they have had their life turned upside down. Snags really need to feel safe in all aspects of their lives, from sleeping to eating, to guarding your family. Give them lots and lots and lots of positives including lap time and cuddles. We are thrilled for this Dachshund family.

Zoe came into our care as a blind little girl with diabetes, so it was necessary for her to be fostered until her insulin levels could be measured and stabilized. Along came Rachel who had just broken her wrist and was happy for the distraction of caring for Zoe rather than feeling sorry for herself. Rachel not only managed her health issues but also socialized her so that, when the day came for her to be adopted, she would soon become part of the family. Rachel became very fond of Zoe and would have adopted her, but rather than being selfish, the thought of leaving her on her own for 12 hours a day due to work commitments made her realize that a new home where people were around most of the time would be best for her. Zoe has now been adopted by a wonderful family who have another little 5 year old dachsie that looks just like Zoe. From day one they all decided that she was meant to be a part of their family. Their 5 year old dachsie has taken Zoe under her wing and is guiding her around the house and of course the rest of the family have fallen in love with her.

Ollie captivated his foster family, and they became a foster fail. Everyone at DRA is thrilled for little Ollie he has found the perfect home.

Little Nixon (now Loki) did not have the ideal start to life that he deserved and sadly had found himself abandoned in a box at only 12 weeks of age. Luckily for him, he has now landed on all four of his cute little paws in an amazing home with older dachshund siblings for company. Loki is a happy boy who loves playing with his brand new toys, especially the furry duck with two squeakers! He has a healthy appetite eating everything put in front of him. Loki is sleeping in his own bed with new fluffy blankets and doing all the fun activities that every puppy should be doing. Loki's facial scars are healing nicely and the mange he was suffering from has almost gone as well. We can only hope that Loki's mother, father and litter siblings are faring as well as Loki and are not suffering at the hands of their disgraceful breeders. Thank you to Mornington Animal Shelter. Loki's new owners and all involved who helped Loki in his time of need. ***It is everyone's responsibility to report animal cruelty. Don't wait until it's too late. Loki is a survivor but there are many who are not so lucky.

Harley, is a very lucky Dachshund!, he has found his own slice of paradise on an expansive acreage. Embracing his newfound freedom, he spends his days frolicking across open fields, relishing the sheer joy of running and playing to his heart's content. With companionship day and night, Harley is surrounded by love and care, basking in the warmth of his new home. For this fortunate pup, life couldn't get any better—it's a dream come true, filled with boundless happiness and endless new adventures.

Dash was looking for his forever home late in life. The adopter was looking for her next companion to keep her company and give her a new lease on life. Together a match made in heaven. They are inseparable, quickly establishing a routine of a couple of little walks a day where both can see their friends and home for morning or afternoon tea, and plenty of couch time cuddles. Michelle might have rescued Dash but she actually thinks Dash rescued her. We are all delightful for this little family. Thank you

Remi was adopted by a kind couple in Far North Queensland who had recently been converted to life with a dachshund and were keen to adopt another so that they could have double the love, and double the trouble. Miss Remi loves playing with Boris, snuggling on the couch playing tug of war and the endless zoomies around the house keep them entertained. Remi has daily walks down on the beach and loves the different sights and smells of the ocean. Thankyou for choosing to adopt, we are thrilled that Remi has found her 'furever home'!

Bob is a beautiful boy who unfortunately came into DRA from an owner who just wanted him gone ASAP. It took a lot of time and dedication for his amazing foster carer to help train Bob to be a better mannered little boy and it was with regret that he was unable to permanently stay. Bob's story caught the attention of his new owner who incredibly drove from regional VIC to Sydney return to collect Bob. Bob had lots to say at their first meeting and the two were able to bond together further during their long journey home. Bob is now officially adopted and is living on a rural property with his new dachshund sister Ginger who is thrilled to have a new playmate. Days are busy and full. There is plenty to do and lots of fun to be had on the property and it's fair to say that Bob is an extremely happy dachshund who is having the time of his life! We could not be happier for Bob!
