Success Stories

Due to her owners increased work commitments Chilli was being left alone for long periods during the day. This resulted in her suffering from separation anxiety which caused her to bark and annoy the neighbours. Her owners tried everything they could to calm her down as they did not want to part with their beautiful little girl. They finally decided that she would need to go to a home where her owners were home more, and the neighbours were more understanding. She is now living a stress-free life with another dachsie called Alfie, several cats and 5 humans. She has the freedom to move between inside and outside as she chooses and there is someone home most of the day to keep her company.

Greta has a sad tale to tell, only 9 months old and she has already had several homes before coming to us. When the foster carer went to pick her up, poor Greta was stressed and skinny, her ribs were all poking out. The foster carer loved, nourished and calmed poor Greta....and it didnt take long at all for her sweet self to start to emerge. Thankfully, all of the foster carers rellies are 'dachshund people'....and when her sister saw Greta she just knew she would be perfect for her family. Greta is now living the doggie dream...she has a whole family who absolutely adore her. She lives inside with the family, sleeps with the family, walks with the family, holidays with the family, swims in the pool with the family What more could a little dachshund ask for than a safe, secure forever home. A big thanks to Susan who fostered Great at such short notice, you were her guardian angel that day!

Pluto definitely found new understanding owners. They have given him the time to settle in to be the best little boy. He is a clever boy and figured out the doggie door the first couple of hours of being in his new home. They are grateful for his original owner training techniques and this made his transition easier. With time and lots of patience things will only get better and better. Josie and Elsie had a bumpy road to their eventual home. They stopped off with a beautiful family who showed them unconditional love and support. But in a semi busy household it wasn't to be their forever home. With that and lots of tears on both sides they were on their way again. Enter this adopter family. Well, what can we say it was immediate love at first sight. Zoomies in the backyard and couch cuddles on the first night. Josie and Elsie are slowly relaxing into their home. This is their forever home. It takes time to settle into a new home, new environments new people. new experiences. DRA are thrilled for this little family

Billy is an endearing member of his family. Known to many as a bit of a busybody, Billy loves investigating everything and everyone around him. He's a curious boy with a heart full of love for his family. Billy is an expert at finding the balance between bonding with his family and enjoying his own space. He loves spending quality time with you and will happily occupy himself exploring the yard on a sunny day. He is eager to snuggle in your lap or by your side. Billy has a sensitive tummy that requires a little extra attention. His owners have worked closely with DRA to ensure he is on the right diet for his needs. We'll be delighted to share he is living a healthy life. Well done Billy !!

We were contacted by Gina from an animal care facility regarding Olly, who had come to be in her care as his owner's health had deteriorated to the point where she could no longer look after him. Gina fostered him and taught him some good manners. He even got used to sleeping with cats. A wonderful couple who had recently lost one of their dachsies applied to adopt and the rest is history. His new parents write "We recently lost one of our dachshunds and our other dachshund developed depression. We were very worried about him – he did not want to eat, just lay on his bed all day facing the wall. We took him to the vet and he was put on anxiety/depression tablets. That’s when we decided to adopt another dachshund. We looked on the DRA website every day and were so excited when we saw Olly was available for adoption. We applied straight away and waited in anticipation. The next day we got the call, and a “meet and greet” was organised. We were very anxious and did not know what to expect when the two dogs met. When we met at the park the two dogs just barked at each other and we thought this is not good. Olly's foster carer was excellent and settled the dogs and got them to walk and play together until they got used to each other. We were allowed to take Olly home for a 2-week visit. Olly settled in well although he had to get used to a new home, routine, and other people. He barked at everyone, got scared and sometimes became aggressive. We were firm with him, and over the days it got better. He has attached himself to my husband and follows him around everywhere when he is home. After the 2 weeks we decided to officially adopt Olly. He is now part of our family, and we are very happy. Our other dog is no longer on anxiety/depression medication and loves having Olly around. They love playing together, going for walks, and just being around the family. Although Olly sometimes still gets aggressive, we believe over time he will get better. We are very happy we could give Olly a new home."

Thanks to his captivating charm and handsome looks, Frank created a buzz among adopters searching for a new friend. He was quickly snapped up by a lovely lady, bringing a ray of sunshine into her life. However, unforeseen interstate commitments required her to cut short the trial period. Frank soon found a loving new family who provided him with a supportive environment, enthused with mutual love and respect. He took a while to settle due to his separation anxiety but his love for life and playful nature has captivated his new family in his forever home.
